  • 2008-2010 Research Project on Detention Conditions for Vulnerable Asylum Seekers in the European Union: JRS Europe has just published its new report, "Becoming Vulnerable in Detention". To download the report, click here.

  • 2007 Detention research project in the 10 new EU Member States: JRS-Europe is a partner in a research project on detention in the 10 new EU Member States, which acceded to the European Union on 1 May 2004.

  • 2006 - 2007 Detention visitors project: JRS-Europe implements a project for JRS staff in Europe who visit detaines.

  • 2006 Meet ex-detainees project: JRS-Europe gathers ex-detainees who are willing to share their experiences in detention in the EU. Journalists and staff from the Permanant Representations of the EU Member States come to meet these guests. Additional attention is drawn to a subject completely neglegted: the financial costs of detention.

  • 2005-2007 Tilburg University research project in the EU-25 Member States: JRS-Europe is a partner in an academic research project covering the EU-25 Member States. It is a comparative study of rights and realities of nationals in penitentiary institutions, foreigners in penitentiary institutions as well as asylum seekers and illegally staying third-country nationals in administrative detention.

  • 2005 - 2006 Accompany detainees training project: JRS-Europe designs and implements a training project directed to persons who accompany detainees. The training is implemented in Belgium, England, Italy, Malta Slovenia, Romania. The training team edits a manual, which is available in Dutch, English, French and Italian.

  • 2004 Police training project in Slovenia: In September 2004, JRS-Slovenia and JRS-Europe hold a training seminar for police and other staff at the detention premise in Postojna/Slovenia.

  • 2003 - 2005 Detention in Europe research project: JRS-Europe starts comprehensive research on administrative detention of asylum seekers and irregular migrants in Europe. The research is documented in three reports. The reports are presented to the 2004 Dutch EU Presidency, the EU Commission and to members of the European Parliament.

  • 1999 Global Conference project: JRS-Europe, JRS-USA and JRS-Germany organise a "Global Conference on Immigration Detention" in St. Georgen/Germany.
